Since childhood, I’ve loved going on trips. As I grew up, I tried to understand why I enjoyed traveling so much. Is it just a social norm or something more? A few initial reasons I can think of include the thrill and adrenaline rush it provides, especially during the planning phase.

Trips also offer an escape from the usual boring routine. Some individuals use trips as an opportunity to indulge in activities they wouldn’t ordinarily do, like overeating or drinking excessively.

Regardless of your motivation for traveling, there are certain factors that can either enhance your enjoyment or cause discomfort.

In this article, I want to discuss what to do and what to avoid when you’re on a trip. This advice will ensure that you don’t need a few days to recover after your vacation. Instead, your trip should be your recovery time.

Speaking of trips and travel, it’s worth noting why successful people often discuss the benefits of getting away. It’s not just about the freedom to do whatever they want, but also about relaxation. Trips allow them to unwind both physically and mentally, enabling them to think differently and see the bigger picture of their lives.

The next time you return from a trip, try contemplating a new idea. You’ll find that your refreshed mind provides better insights into your idea.

Comfortable Stay

Once I reached a point in my life where I was financially stable, I made it a priority to allocate funds towards securing comfortable accommodations during my travels. I firmly believe that having a comfortable place to rest and recharge is absolutely vital in order to fully enjoy and make the most of your trip, particularly when your itinerary is packed with a lot of sightseeing activities.

Sightseeing, while enriching and enjoyable, can also be quite physically demanding and exhausting. Therefore, having a comfortable place to rest at the end of the day is necessary to recuperate and prepare for the next day’s adventures.

But even if your travel plans don’t involve much sightseeing or are more relaxed in nature, I would still strongly advise against compromising on the quality of your accommodation. Having a decent place to stay is not just about comfort but also about ensuring that you don’t need to worry about issues related to hygiene, which is an important factor to consider when you’re staying in a place that is not your own.

Furthermore, quality accommodations often come with the added benefit of providing basic amenities such as toiletries. This means that you can pack lighter and don’t need to worry about bringing these items with you, making your travel experience even more hassle-free.

Easily digestible Food

People often treat vacations as a chance to break away from their daily routines. This includes indulging in activities they typically wouldn’t, such as eating their favorite foods without restrictions. While this break from routine may seem enjoyable, it often involves the consumption of junk and unhygienic foods.

If your vacation is jam-packed with sightseeing, there’s a silver lining. The physical exertion involved in touring different places might help to digest the food more effectively. However, this isn’t always the case. If your itinerary isn’t filled with a lot of physical activities, there’s a high chance your body may not digest the food properly.

In such cases, you may start experiencing early signs of deteriorating health, like an upset stomach, cough, and cold. These can be more than just minor inconveniences. They have the potential to completely ruin your trip, forcing you to spend your time seeking medical attention rather than enjoying the vacation you had planned.

Furthermore, these health issues might follow you back home. You may end up having to spend time and money on medical bills, taking precious days off work to recover. In the worst-case scenario, you might end up needing a vacation from your vacation!

Good mode of transport

When it comes to transportation during your travels, it’s worth considering the benefits of hiring a taxi, particularly in areas where traffic flows smoothly. The convenience of a taxi can significantly improve your travel experience, saving you from the struggles of navigating unfamiliar public transport systems and schedules.

However, it’s essential to adapt to the local conditions of the place you’re visiting. In densely populated areas or places where traffic congestion is common, a rickshaw might prove to be a more efficient option than a taxi. They can navigate through crowded streets more easily, saving you time and stress.

Now, let’s delve deeper into why I recommend hiring a cab instead of solely relying on local transport. One of the main reasons is time efficiency. When you hire a taxi, you have control over your schedule, which you don’t get with public transportation. This can save you a considerable amount of time, especially in cities where public transport is less frequent or unreliable. A taxi can drop you right at your doorstep, providing a level of comfort and convenience that public transport often can’t match.

If hiring a taxi isn’t feasible, another option to consider is public transport that offers air conditioning. Comfortable and cool, this can provide a more pleasant journey, especially in hot climates or during the summer season. It’s all about ensuring your journey is as comfortable and stress-free as possible, allowing you to fully enjoy your travel experience.

Don’t rush to visit all point of a location

As a child, when I would go on trips with my parents, they would usually request a list of sightseeing destinations from our hotel’s reception and then aim to cover all these points.

Their priority was to visit all the local tourist spots, even if it meant skipping meals. This approach often had several negative effects, such as causing fatigue during the trip and requiring a longer recovery time after vacationing.

In fact, the rush to cover all points sometimes led to chaos. If two families with different mindsets were traveling together, verbal clashes could often occur, spoiling the overall trip experience.

Such conflicts could also occur within the same family. In short, this approach often defeats the primary purpose of going on vacation, which is to relax and enjoy.

No Substances

During vacations, it’s not uncommon for individuals to neglect their physical health by excessively consuming substances such as alcohol and cigarettes. This behavior often stems from an underlying need to break away from the monotony of their daily lives.

The vacation atmosphere and the break from routine can sometimes trick your mind into believing that you should freely indulge in activities that are typically off-limits. It is as if the societal definition of enjoyment and relaxation is often associated with letting go of all inhibitions and giving into unhealthy indulgences.

However, such behavior can have an adverse effect on your health and overall vacation experience. This excessive indulgence can lead to fatigue, leaving you feeling drained and lethargic. Instead of exploring new places and making the most of your travel experience, you may find yourself unwilling to venture out of your accommodation.

This, in essence, defeats the whole purpose of going on a vacation, which is to relax, recharge, and experience new things. It’s important to remember that a vacation is not a time to take revenge on your body for the daily stresses it endures, but rather an opportunity to treat it with care, allowing it to rest and rejuvenate.

Final Thoughts

Before planning a vacation, try to understand why you want to take one. This gives your trip a purpose. Don’t just go on vacation because everyone else is doing it, because you fear you won’t have the opportunity in the future (like after having a child), or to escape your everyday routine.

If your reasons for vacationing align with the ones mentioned above, you’re using the vacation as a temporary relief, not addressing the root cause of your stress.

For me, vacations are a time to rejuvenate. They remind me of my larger life goals, test my physical strength, and clear my mind. This allows me to view things from different perspectives.

As a history enthusiast, I believe much knowledge lies within our past. Therefore, I plan my vacations around places with historical significance.
